#450 - It Took Awhile
Location: Beach Room (1st Floor, Music Room)
Division: Senior (70 years and up) | Exhibited by: Artistic Artifacts
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery
Commercial Pattern/Designer: Ruth Chandler / Modern Hand Stitching
Artist Statement: My stitch book started in a class with Ruth Chandler over 10 years ago and languished in a
drawer for all that time. Last year, while working on a stitch challenge, I realized the fabric collages I was
creating fit into the book, both in size & colors. I was able to fill in the blank pages with the hand stitched
collages. After all that time, I was able to stitch the book together & embellish with art yarn. A treasure on
my book shelf as well as a stitch reference when needed.

#451 - 65 Days of Stitching
Location: International Room (2nd Floor, Pink Bedroom)
Division: Senior (70 years and up) | Exhibited by: Artistic Artifacts
Category: Original Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery: Sashiko
Artist Statement: This started as a 100 day stitch challenge and I made it to day 65 when I decided the piece was large enough. I used a base fabric of cotton khadi and added one piece of Japanese fabric each day using Sashiko thread and basic running stitch. The piece winds its way around a vintage wooden spool & it is finished with the waving Happy Cat & a button found in my grandmother’s collection.
