#239 - November's Garden
Award: Second Place
Location: Winter Room (1st Floor, Dining Room)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Molly Pitcher Stitchers
Category: Original Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery
Artist Statement: I am enamored with the concept of slow stitching as it promotes a very playful freeform
approach to hand stitching and embroidery. My primary focus in all of my work is creating texture, so
including other techniques such as crochet and beading are integral to my practice. November's Garden is
my imagined version of my ideal flower garden.

#146 - Sno-Balls NOLA
Location: American History (1st Floor Bedroom)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: In Stitches
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Counted Thread: Cross-Stitch
Thread Count: 14
Artist Statement: My pattern was originally completed in 2001 and the pattern was purchased at The
Quarter Stitch in the French Quarter of New Orleans.. The simplicity of this piece is what caught my eye.
Although it is not a complex design by any means, I like the boldness of the colors. I chose a larger frame
because I wanted the viewer to be drawn to the picture and how I purposely placed it in the center with a
larger white space around as a border. I have been stitching since I was in my early twenties and I was
taught by my mother Clarice.

#601 - Encrustations
Award: Third Place
Location: Beach Room (1st Floor, Music Room)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery
Artist Statement: This freeform needlework piece was designed by Ruth Marie Hoffman and offered as a
class at EGA National Seminar in Chicago IL. When the kit arrived, the instructions encouraged us to pull
materials from our own stashes that we’d like to incorporate into the piece. I was drawn to the batik fabric—
its colors and pattern inspired me to incorporate threads I’d collected as well as turquoise glass beads
inherited from my grandmother. Introducing the beads shifted the work from an exercise in form to one
rooted in personal history. The contrast between the fabric and the beads reflects a dialogue between the
present moment of learning and a lineage of making that predates me. Choosing a freeform approach
allowed the materials to guide the composition, emphasizing responsiveness over control and honoring
irregularity as a record of process. This piece functions both as a study in material-driven decision making
and as an act of connection. By stitching my grandmother’s beads into the fabric, I bring inherited objects
into a contemporary context, allowing memory, touch, and experimentation to coexist within the work.

#602 - An Octopus in the Garden
Award: Honorable Mention
Location: Beach Room (1st Floor, Music Room)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery
Artist Statement: For me, the octopus is a symbol of my enduring relationship with my best friend,
representing the many ways close friends support one another. I chose this subject both for its personal
significance and for its potential as a dynamic form within needlework. Its fluid shape and varied textures
allowed me to explore materials and techniques I had not previously worked with. I took this class with the
intention of creating a beautiful representation of a creature I love while also pushing myself to experiment
and learn. Through this process, the piece became not only an exploration of new methods, but also a
reflection on connection, adaptability, and mutual care.

Award: First Place
Location: 1st Floor, Center Hallway
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery: Crewel

#604 - April Enchanted
Location: 1st Floor, Center Hallway
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery: Crewel
Commercial Pattern/Designer: Elsa Williams
Artist Statement: April Enchanted, designed by Elsa Williams, took me back to the roots of my needlework
journey. I fell in love again with the freeform joy of long and short stitch and feeling the weight of my
stitches on the fabric.

#836 - My Grandpa
Award: Third Place
Location: American History (1st Floor Bedroom)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Adapted Design | Technique: Counted Thread: Cross-Stitch
Artist Statement: My grandpa grew up in Junction, TX, small town boy who moved to California when he
joined the Army. He became a chaplain and was supposed to be deployed overseas. However, because he
could type, he was told to stay in San Francisco, CA. Unfortunately, he lost his best friend and many other
battle buddies. Fortunately, during that time he met my grandmother, and the rest is history. He was my
hero, my fishing mentor, the one who made me paint his house sea foam green, the man I got my quirky
sense of humor from, and the best grandpa ever. The project is dedicated to him, and many heroes we lost
during and since WWII. This labor of love began with an angled picture I took of his WWII photograph and
created the pattern. The work began on March 28, 2025, and was finished and framed on August 24, 2025.

Artist Statement: I designed this piece by hand on graph paper and then stitched it on linen to
commemorate a private motherhood milestone (1336 days). Although it serves as a reminder to celebrate
the earliest years of motherhood, it also showcases how we can use a hobby, like stitching, to create
personally meaningful artwork. 40 count linen with cosmo floss.

#537 - Much Is Said With Flowers Jessica Tickle 2024
Award: First Place
Location: Garden Room (1st Floor, Cream Parlor)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Original Design | Technique: Counted Thread: Sampler - Traditional
Thread Count: 40
Artist Statement: I designed this piece on graph paper in spring 2024 as a personal goal to create a
monochromatic design featuring original motifs. I finished stitching it on linen in late spring of that same
year, with the hope it would have the look and feel of older samplers, but with a modern twist. At a time
when much is created digitally, it has represented my personal call to slow down the creative process, draw
inspiration from older techniques, and infuse modern art with personal details.

#581 - Mothra, Queen of Monsters
Award: Second Place
Location: Halloween Room (2nd Floor Landing)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Self
Category: Adapted Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery: Stumpwork
Artist Statement: Mothra, Queen of Monsters, was made for my dear friend, Emi, over the course of an
intense two and an half weeks in 2025. True to a longstanding habit of jumping into the deep end full of
enthusiasm and little to no practice, Mothra was my first foray into both stumpwork and turkeywork. After
years practicing embroidery by monogramming and decorating handkerchiefs with small floral motifs,
Mothra gave me a true appreciation for filling in large sections of a design with long and short stitch, as well
as blending colors together with the same. Inspiration was primarily taken from the Mothra: Tokyo SOS
Premium Scale Statue by Mondo.
