#433 - Christmas in the City
Location: Winter Room (1st Floor, Dining Room)
Division: Adult | Exhibited by: Stitch Middleburg
Category: Commercial Design | Technique: Counted Thread
Commercial Pattern/Designer: Kirk & Bradley
Artist Statement: The classic NYC taxi driving through the city at Christmas reminds me of glorious trips
I've taken to New York to visit family through the years. This was the second piece of needlepoint I ever
completed. I grew up watching my grandmother needlepoint, never fully appreciating the time, energy, or
financial investments this art takes. This piece is especially meaningfully to me as I had it backed with the
same velvet my grandmother used to back the needlepoint stockings she made for her grandchildren!

Award: First Place
Location: International Room (2nd Floor, Pink Bedroom)

Artist Statement: I used a camera to represent capturing a moment in time which I value. The lens is
covered by old watch parts encased in resin, representing time. The three stars on the front represent
something I value which I fear is disappearing, the three separate branches of our government.
