#106 - Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Location: Beach Room (1st Floor, Music Room)

Division: Adult | Exhibited by: In Stitches

Category: Original Design | Technique: Surface Embroidery

Commercial Pattern/Designer: SKU: ATd1307B; Associated Talents

Artist Statement: The Associated Talent canvas was sent to a needlepoint store a third of the way finished.

The original needleworker, unknown, had died, and her unfinished pieces were sent to our store. The artist

of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch found this canvas and decided to finish it.

As their work on the canvas progressed they felt more and more uncomfortable depicting the ocean with

such tidiness and neatness. They started added plastic to the canvas, because they have never been to the

ocean without encountering such materials. After a trip to the ocean with their nieces, who collected natural

materials while the artist collected trash, the second accompanying piece was born. The Great Pacific

Garbage Patch is a collection of objects that have been discarded or trashed that reminded the artist of the

ocean and of the floating island of human waste, twice the size of Texas, that has been added to it.

For Sale: $1000
