Recent Initiatives

The 2025 special exhibit Friends Gather Here: A Legacy of Two Communities at Woodlawn follows the stories of Quaker families from Pennsylvania and New Jersey who came to Woodlawn in 1846 to build an antislavery community. They settled among a small free Black community and used innovative farming to demonstrate an alternative to slavery in Virginia.

Every donation and sponsorship helps us to fund the critical steps required to develop exhibits, including research, design, and installation.

Coffee & Conversation is the newest program series at Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House. The event pairs an afternoon of coffee and refreshments with a lecture, discussion, and behind the scenes element to the museum.

Every donation and sponsorship directly supports our event by funding refreshments and speaker honorariums. Through your generosity, we are able to cultivate a unique environment dedicated to learning, reflection, and meaningful connection.
